The Art of Woven Light
Inspired by the quiet beauty of natural fibres, Tossa brings together thread, jute, cane, wood and metal in a collection shaped by hand, texture and light.

The Heritage of Tossa Jute Reimagined
The name Tossa draws from Tossa Jute, a natural golden fibre celebrated globally for its organic strength, rich silky texture, and unmistakable character. We reinterpret that timeless craft through the lens of contemporary architectural lighting.
By winding, weaving and layering individual fibres around sculpted mathematical armatures, we create something far greater than the raw material itself — an ethereal lighting structure that breathes life into living environments.
“Every strand carries an organic pulse. When light passes through, craft becomes atmosphere.”
— Edison Lighting Design Studio
Golden Tossa Strands
Tossa jute is retted and sun-cured rather than chemically bleached, which is why the fibre keeps its uneven golden tone and its natural lustre. Every strand arrives slightly different in thickness and colour, and we sort for that variation rather than correct it — it is what stops a finished shade looking machine-made.
Under light the fibre behaves less like a screen and more like a filter. Thin sections glow amber, denser passes hold the light back, and the shade reads warm from the outside while what lands in the room stays soft.

Hand-Tensioned Winding
Each strand is wound onto the armature by hand, one pass at a time, at a spacing the maker judges by eye and by feel. Tension is the whole craft: too loose and the weave sags out of shape, too tight and the fibre loses the softness that made it worth using.
Because the spacing is set by hand rather than by machine, the interval opens and closes very slightly across the form. That is what produces the moving shadow a fixture throws across a wall — a perfectly regular weave would cast a flat grid.

Solid Walnut Collars
A turned walnut collar caps each luminaire where the shade meets its suspension. Solid timber rather than veneer, so the profile can be shaped deeply enough to hold the weave and still read as a single quiet line.
The grain is hand-waxed rather than lacquered, which keeps the surface matt and lets it darken gently with use. It is the one element on the fixture meant to change over the years.

PVD Brushed Brass
The armature beneath the weave is brass, brushed and PVD-finished so the colour holds without a lacquer that could yellow or flake. It carries the entire form — every strand is tensioned against it, so it has to stay true.
Brushed rather than polished, because a mirror finish would throw hard reflections back through the fibre. The softer surface picks the warm light up and returns it as a glow along the frame.
When Illuminated, Texture Becomes Light
When illuminated, the texture becomes part of the light. Fine threads soften the glow, natural cane creates delicate shadows, and warm timber accents bring depth to the composition. Metal provides the structure, while the hand-finished materials bring warmth and individuality.

Softened Diffusion
Fine thread layers act as an organic optical filter, scattering point-source glare into an enveloping, velvety luminance (UGR < 14) with Ra 97+ true color rendering.

Delicate Shadows
The open-weave natural cane perimeter acts as an architectural stencil, casting poetic lattice shadow ribbons across ceiling canopies and adjoining walls.

Enduring Architecture
Underneath the soft woven exterior sits an aerospace aluminium skeleton and SELV isolated driver, guaranteeing 70,000+ hours of flawless photometric life.
